The diskette hub of a 3 1/2" diskette is a metal plate which serves as the center of the recording media. Accessible from the bottom of the diskette, it sits on the spindle in the floppy disk drive. The spindle spins the media so the |data sectors| may be accessed by the |read/write head|. The hub reinforces the media so that it spins smoothly, without being damaged.
